Oddział zapewnia całodobową i kompleksową opiekę nad wcześniakami i noworodkami chorymi. Noworodki zdrowe dzięki dobrym warunkom lokalowym mają możliwość przebywania z matką w tzw. systemie rooming-in w dwuosobowych salach w Oddziale Położniczo-Ginekologicznym.
Oddział posiada dwie sale intensywnego nadzoru medycznego z pełnym wyposażeniem, umożliwiającym prowadzenie wspomaganego oddechu u wcześniaków i noworodków z zaburzeniami patologicznymi.
W celu zapewnienia specjalistycznej opieki wykonywane są badania diagnostyczne, łącznie z tomografią komuterową i echo serca. Oddział współpracuje również
ze specjalistami z innych dziedzin medycyny m.in. kardiologii dziecięcej i neurologii dziecięcej.
W 1996 roku szpital otrzymał tytuł „Szpitala przyjaznego dziecku” nadany przez UNICEF.
W oddziale prowadzone są działania promujące karmienie piersią przez wszystkie matki. Przestrzega się zasad wynikających z programu „10 kroków do udanego karmienia piersią”.
